Armed Security Guard Training
Requirements in Alabama
Any individual who wishes to have an
employment as an armed security guard, in the state of Alabama is required to apply for a license. Certain
requirements are needed to make sure that the applicant is qualified for the job. Intensive training unlike that of
unarmed guards is also required. Listed below are the basic requirements that each applicant should
meet.
- For armed security guards, applicant
should be at least 21 years of age.
- The applicant should be able to
provide a driver’s license issued by the State.
- A State pistol license is
needed.
- The applicant should posses a high
school diploma or any certificate of equivalency.
- He or she should have a valid social
security number.
- Background check by the FBI (Federal
Bureau of Investigation) should be completed.
- The applicant should submit his or her
fingerprints to the FBI.
- There should be no record of felony
conviction or other acts of crime such as violence and moral turpitude, as this will be reasons for
disqualification.
Application Information
The applicant is required by the State to
fill-out a written form with specific information. This will be subject for evaluation, to check whether the
applicant is fit for the job.
All basic information about the applicant
such as name, social security number, e-mail address and mobile or phone number should be provided. Prior
residential addresses for the past ten years and how long the applicant stayed in the place should also be listed.
It should be indicated if the applicant ever served in the Military, with all the specifics including type of
discharge and date of service.
Previous employments for the past ten
years should be included in the list, complete with the date of employment and date of
resignation.
If there are any records of felony
convictions or act of crimes, the applicant will have to let the Board know. This will be subject for evaluation,
depending upon the weight of the crime, jurisdiction, and final disposition.
Certain documents should also be attached
such as proof of age and proof of citizenship, along with an authorization for release of
information.
Security Guard Training Course
To apply for armed security guard
position, high standard security guard training is required.
The applicant should provide a Certification of training approved by the Alabama Security Regulatory
Board.
Training covers the
following:
- Training in the use of force under the
state laws
- Proper use of
firearms
- Types of arrest and detainment of
suspects
- Dealing with medical and fire
emergencies
- Learning legal and ethical
issues
- Written
reports
Some agencies require further background
check, depending upon the city or county the applicant belongs.
Armed security guards will be able to
find employment in a lot of areas of the security sector such as schools, government offices and other private
facilities.
