Armed Security
Guard Training Requirements in
Alaska
Employment as
an armed security guard in the State of Alaska requires
license application. The Department of Public Safety,
issues these types of license, however the applicant
should also secure firearms certification before being
able to obtain it. Like in all other States, the
applicants should comply with the basic requirements
listed below.
- The applicant should be at least 18 years
of age.
- He or she must be a citizen of the United
Stated or a legal resident
alien.
- There should be no found records of
felony convictions or acts of crime involving the
applicant.
- He or she should be emotionally and
mentally stable.
- The applicant should fully submit to a
background check and should provide fingerprints to aid in
the investigation.
- The applicant should be able to pass drug
tests.
- He or she should acquire a driver’s
license and a pistol permit issued by the state of
Alaska.
- Applicants should complete 8 hours of
basic pre-training course.
- Within the first 6 months of employment,
the applicant should also complete 40 hours of in-service
training.
Application
Information
Each applicant
is required to fill-out a written form with specific
information, evaluated by the Alaska Department of Public
Safety.
Covered here
are the basic information about the applicant such as
name, date and place of birth, social security number,
residence address, telephone number and mailing address.
Previous residence information for the past five years
should also be listed. Military service information is
also required if applicable, complete with the Branch,
date of discharge and type of
dismissal.
History of
employments for the past five years should be added on
the list, whether it was a full-time or a part-time job.
The applicant should also provide the names of past
employers, address, dates and contact
numbers.
Records of
felony convictions or crime related arrests during the
ten years prior to the date of application should be
provided. All information such as the charges, date,
place and decision should not be left out; otherwise the
Department will not accept the
application.
Security Guard Training
Course
The state
requires applicants to complete a security guard
training course involving the
following:
- The laws regarding different types of
arrest
- The laws on search and
seizure
- Responsibilities and duties to the client
and employer
- How to deal with medical and fire
emergencies
- Methods and patrol
techniques
Applicants for
armed guard position are also required to complete
another 8 hours of training regarding proper and legal
use of firearms, handling of weapons, maintenance and
safety. By the end of the course, a Firearms Training
Certificate issued by the Department should be
provided.
Armed security
guard can find employments on local and private areas of
the security sector such as private office buildings and
government facilities.
