Armed Security
Guard Training Requirements in
Arizona
The State of
Arizona, like all other States in the U.S. requires every
person who wishes to get an employment as an armed
security guard, to apply for a license. The license will
be proof that the applicant is qualified for the job as
issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Compared to unarmed security guards, armed guards are
required to undergo special and intensive training
involving the proper use of firearms. However, there are
certain requirements that are common to both positions.
Here is the list of the basic requirements needed for an
armed guard license application.
- The applicant
should be at least 21 years of age or
older.
- He or she
should be a U.S. citizen, or if a resident alien, should
provide legal documents and working
permits.
- There should
be no record or track of felony convictions and acts of
crime involving domestic violence and other
misdemeanors.
- The applicant
should be able to provide a high school diploma or any
equivalency certification.
- He or she
should have an honorable dismissal from the Armed
Forces.
- A background
check will be performed with full cooperation and
submission required from the
applicants.
- The applicant
should be able to submit his or her
fingerprints.
- Any training
for an armed security guard should be done in a State
accredited facility and should also take place within the
State.
Application
Information
A written form
is required along with other supporting documents. The
Arizona Department of Public Safety will evaluate the
application to make sure that the candidates are fit for
the position. This form applies to both security guards
and private investigators in getting or renewing
licenses.
The first part
of the form covers all information of the current
employer, for those applicants who wants to renew their
existing licenses. The second part includes basic
information such as social security number, full name,
date and place of birth, age, sex, phone or mobile
number, home and e-mail address and other physical
attributes. Applicants should also indicate whether he or
she is prohibited by the state or the federal law from
possessing this type of license.
If there is
any experience in Military service, the applicant should
also attach a copy of DD214. Candidates should also be
aware that there is a non-refundable $124 application fee
for armed guards.
Security Guard Training
Course
All applicants
are required to accomplish eight hours of security guard
training followed by another sixteen hours of
weapons training before being able to obtain a
license.

of force allowed by the

- Options other
than lethal-force
- Firearm
handling, maintenance and
safety
- Laws of
firearms in the State of
Arizona
Armed guards
are usually employed in many areas of the security sector
such as hotels, private institutions, buildings and other
facilities.
