Armed Security Guard Training Requirements in Delaware

To be an armed security guard imposes great responsibility that is why you have to be a licensed security officer in the state of Delaware. Any applicant who is applying for an armed security license must complete the basic requirements needed before their license is approved. As administered by the Delaware Department of Public Safety, requirements must first be met before the issuance of such license. Once the requirements are accomplished, license is issued and is valid for 2 years.

The following are the needed requirement for an applicant to acquire their armed security guard license:

  •  Applicant must be at least 21 years old.
  •  Must have a high school diploma.
  •  Must have his/her background checked.
  •  Must submit to finger printing.
  •  Must undergo drug screening test
  •  Must be a United State citizen or a registered alien and must provide proof that they are able to work legally in the US.
  •  Applicant must have no felony conviction or any crime involving in the illegal use of fire arms. This includes serious misdemeanors and assault III or offensive touching in the last three (3) years.
  •  Applicant must be in good physical condition.
  •  Must have a three hour course for firearms.
  •  Must meet and maintain the qualifications set and approved by the Board of Examiners.
  •  Must complete a 16 hour certified training course given by the state of Delaware and forms must be signed by their instructor as proof.

After completing the stated requirements, applicants will then take security guard training courses in security and weapons at a state certified facility. Like the unarmed security officer, this course will train the armed security guard to handle emergency situations that might occur while they are on guard. Since situations are inevitable, they are to be trained how to handle fire, medical emergencies and other hazardous situations.

The course to be taken is approved by the Delaware Department of Public Safety and they are as follows:

  •  Legal and Ethical Issues
  •  Emergency medical training which includes CPR
  •  The use of handcuffs
  •  Professionalism in the workplace
  •  Restraint of suspects
  •  Weapons training such as target practice and marksmanship
  •  The proper use of weapon
  •  The legal use of deadly force

Once this is completed, an armed security officer can now use his license. As mentioned, this license is valid for two (2) years and is renewed after taking a refresher course that is required yearly.

Now there are many duties and responsibilities that an armed security guard has. Though like the unarmed security officer they can also work for public places but what’s exciting is that they can work for high profiled people as well as private properties. For example, an armed officer can work as a close protection officer to escort VIPs like the Head of the State, Prime Ministers and others. They can also work as an escort party for transporting bullion, jewelry owned by the government treasury and cash from banks to safety vaults. There are many opportunities in which an armed security officer is needed and the state of Delaware is the best place to find what you are looking for. Complete all requirements and you can be sure that you will enjoy the access of jobs that your license can give.
