Guard Training Requirements in
Idaho
Requirements
for armed security guard applicants in the State of Idaho
depend on the city and county levels. Applicants for
security guard position do not necessarily need to obtain
a license, according to the Idaho Bureau of Occupational
Licensing office. However, they will still have to meet
certain standards and requirements that most employers
set.
Listed below
are the common requirements needed to qualify for the
job.
- For armed
security guard position, applicants must be at least 21
years of age.
- Applicants
should be able to present a high school diploma or a GED
equivalent certificate.
- Applicants
should posses a valid driver’s license issued under the
State of Idaho.
- Applicants
should not be associated with any acts of crime, or found
with records of felony conviction and illegal use of
weapons.
- He or she must
be in good physical condition.
- Applicants must
have good communication skills.
- He or she must
be able to stand for long periods of
time.
- He or she must
have at least 1 year of experience as an unarmed security
guard.
Application
Information
It is up to
the employer and the city clerk’s office to set
additional requirements upon employment. Applicants are
obliged to follow certain laws under the State of Idaho
that will reflect on their performance as security guards
and in their actions as public protectors, peace officers
and local law enforcers.
Applicants
should also make sure that they are being hired by
licensed security agencies and companies. They are also
required to undergo criminal background check and pass
drug testing. For armed security guard applicants, more
strict background checks and profile investigation is
needed. This is to evaluate and ensure the qualification
of the candidates before employment.
Security Guard Training
Course
In some cities
and counties, it could take about three months for
applicants to be cleared as armed security guards. Rigid
training and firearms specialization is required
including passing firearms tests. Although a security
guard license is not required in the State, applicants
for armed guard position must be able to acquire a
state-issued permit that will allow them to carry
weapons. They will also have to meet the State employment
standards in their training.

- Immediate
response to medical emergencies and first
aid
- Dealing with
fire emergencies
- Cleaning and
field strip of weapons
- Proper handling
and carrying of firearms
After
completion of security guard training, the
applicants must be able to pass a shooting certification
to be fully qualified in their field of
work.
Armed guards
will find employment in a lot of areas of the security
sector such as, private offices and buildings, government
facilities, factories, airports and private
properties.
