Guard Training Requirements in
Maryland
The State of
Maryland is home to the majority of the life science and
development. With more than 350 biotechnology companies
located, this state is one of the three largest nexus in
this field in the United States. With this kind of
facilities, it is no doubt that the state of Maryland
offers people who are interested to work as an armed
security officer. In fact there are many other facilities
in which an armed security guard can work. Like any other
job, this position requires licensing that may open job
positions in other areas in the state of
Maryland.
As an armed
security officer, it is your duty to protect any property
from vandalism, theft and terrorism once you have
completed the training needed. So what are the
requirements needed for you to work as an armed security
guard?
The state of
Maryland requires applicants the
following:
- Applicants
must be at least 21 years
old.
- Must pass
drug testing.
- Applicants
must be of good moral
character.
- Has a valid
driver’s license in the state of
Maryland.
- Must be in
good physical condition and has not mental
instability that might hinder him from performing his
duties.
- Applicants
must submits 1 ½ inch pictures to be submitted with
the application form
- Applicants
must fill the application form with complete details
in order to be approved and a license is
granted.
- Finger prints
must be submitted and must be on standard fingerprint
cards. Fees should be paid for the fingerprint
records check. The Maryland State Police provides the
finger print cards for those interested
applicants.
- Applicants
must be subjected to a criminal background
check.
Individuals
applying as an armed security officer must not be
convicted in any criminal acts. Felony convictions such
as arson, burglary, housebreaking, kidnapping, abduction
and manslaughter will disqualify an applicant. Also
applicants who are convicted of rape or habitual
drunkenness and providing false information in their
application form will be denied of the said
license.
As mandated,
the state of Maryland requires their applicants for an
armed security guard to undergo a training course which
includes:
- Observation
skills
- Writing
reports
- Investigative
techniques
- Emergency
response
- Fire arms
training
- Communication
skills
- Health and
safety
Only those
applicants who have completed the number of hours
required for this training course will be granted the
license for an armed security officer and will be
subjected for employment. Other security guard
training courses might also be added depending
on the agency or employer.
