Armed Security
Guard Training Requirements in
Michigan
The state of
Michigan requires no license in becoming a security guard
however, if you are applying as an armed security
officer, then you need to be licensed in order to carry
any weapon. Basic requirements is also needed to qualify
as well as completing the training hours needed before a
firearms permit is
issued.
For the basic
requirements, here is what the State of Michigan requires
any applicant interested to work as an armed security
guard:
- Candidates
must be at least 21 years old. Although there might
be agencies that require you to be at least 25 years
old but in general, the state of Michigan requires
applicants to be 21 years old.
- Must be a
legal citizen of the United States or a registered
resident alien with proof of
residency.
- Must have
a Michigan state driver’s license.
- Must pass
the background check mandated.
- Must pass
drug screening.
- Applicants
must be in good physical condition and is free of any
physical disabilities that might hinder him/her in
performing their duties.
- Must be
free of any mental instability.
- Applicants
must not be convicted of any criminal activities such
as fraud and other serious criminal
charges.

needed for their security officers. Such training may be

There are also
other types of security guard training involved
depending on the area you are applying. The requirements
may also vary and some agencies may have additional
training for applicants. What is important is that you
have a weapons permit, proof of firearms training and
safety from certified instructors approved by the
state.
A number of
class training hours is also required. The training
course consists of an eight (8) hours classroom study and
thirty-two (32) hours of range time. Topics in this

- Practical
Live fire
Requirements
are consist of classroom study and practical course of
fire. Applicants are expected to complete and pass the
training course as well as having a passing score on
written exam and firing course. Only after completion of
the training will the applicants receive their
certificate and course
transcript.
An armed
security officer can work both in public and private
premises. Having a valid license and additional class
certification will also open doors for many opportunities
to any individual who is interested in working as an
armed security officer.
