Armed Security Guard Training Requirements in Mississippi

The state of Mississippi does not require individuals to have a license in applying as an armed security officer. However, a weapon in the city and county requires a permit in which you have to contact the local City Clerk for the requirements needed to obtain such permit.

If you want to work as an armed security officer in the state of Mississippi, make sure that you are under a company that offers security services. Also the hiring company you are under must be licensed in order for you to work.

For the requirements, Mississippi requires applicants to meet the following:

  • Must be a resident of the United States or a resident alien with proof of residency
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in the Mississippi state
  • Must be in good physical condition
  • Must be able to pass the background check as mandated
  • Must be submitted to fingerprinting
  • Must have no mental instability
  • Must pass drug test and screening
  • Must have no conviction of any criminal acts or misdemeanor domestic violent charges
  • Must not be convicted of fraud
  • Must provide complete and correct details in the application form
  • Must have no drug or alcohol addiction

For security guard training courses, applicants must undergo class hours to be conducted by the hiring agency. These classes may be conducted in a classroom, vocational schools, colleges or any location that the hiring agency may have. There are also other agencies in which they provide applicants a private structure for these types of classes.

The training course may include but is not limited to the following:

  • Legal Aspects
  • Patrol and observation
  • The role of private security
  • Incident response
  • Surveillance operation
  • Written reports and documentation
  • Working with and addressing the public
  • First aid Overview
  • CPR

In some cases, other agencies may require additional courses. The requirements also depend on the area where the applicant is applying. They may vary but take note that they will include all of these topics. In obtaining your guard cards, at least 40 hours of training is expected to be completed by the applicant. Also, it is advised that you should contact the hiring agency or your local county about any information about these courses. Basic requirements are mandated to meet. Weapon permit and proof of firearms training and safety must be obtained and should be signed by a certified instructor. Once this is completed, you can now work as an armed security officer in the state of Mississippi.

Armed security officers can work in banks, malls, schools, government offices and buildings, libraries and many more. Mississippi is open for any individual who is interested to work as well as serve and protect this lovely state. Just make sure you have completed all requirements and have been regarded as a potential candidate.
