Armed Security Guard Training Requirements in Montana


 

The state of Montana is the fourth biggest in terms of area in the United States but only 44th when it comes to population. Though it is not heavily populated, millions of tourists are flocking in every year to visit famous landmarks and places in Montana. With that being said, armed security officers are needed almost everywhere.  

The threat of terrorism has not fully died down just yet. There are still threats every day and they can occur anytime and anywhere. In relation to this more people are now being cautious. That is why armed security guards are now in demand. To become and armed security officer in Montana, it is important that you pass the qualifications they are looking for. A license is required afterwards as well as a firearms security guard training course.

These are the basic qualifications for an armed security officer:

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have a Montana state driver’s license
  • Must be a licensed and in good standings as a security guard
  • Must submit proof of verification of employment with a licensed security guard or propriety card
  • Must provide proof of firearms certification
  • Must successfully passed an FBI and Montana Department of Justice background check
  • Must submit a photo showing full face , head and shoulders
  • Must be in good physical and mental condition
  • Must have no criminal conviction that involves misuse of firearms or any weapons
  • Must be free from drug or alcohol dependencies

Applicants are expected to pass and become potential candidates as an armed security officer. However, before submitting your application as an armed security guard in Montana, you must first complete and pass a board approved firearms course. After satisfactorily passing this course, you will be issued a certificate by the instructor. You will need to provide a copy of this certification to be submitted together with your application form. Once you have the certification, you are required for a yearly re-certification in order for it to be valid.

Working as an armed security guard varies with the type, size and location of the employer. Some may work in department stores where they protect not only the people but also the merchandise and other equipments.  They can also work in museums where valuable paintings and exhibits are displayed. They inspect people and suspicious packages that might be a possible threat. Armed security officers can also work in banks and sometimes drive armored vehicles where they are responsible for protecting the transportation of money. In fact there are many locations in which an armed guard is needed. They are trained to become competent in handling emergencies and threats of terrorism.
