Armed Security
Guard Training Requirements in
Nebraska
The state of
Nebraska does not require requirements if you apply as an
armed security guard on the state level. In any case
however, there are some rules and regulations to carry
firearm at county levels. The Nebraska Unicameral passed
LB454 creating the Handgun Permit Act back in 2006. This
law states that applicants who have completed an approved
handgun training and safety course and completed a
Concealed Handgun Permit Application can present the
application and necessary documentation to the Nebraska
State Patrol.
However, the following
qualifications are required to all
applicants:
- Must be at
least 21 years old
- A citizen
of the United States or a registered
alien
- Must
provide proof of residency
- Must have
a valid driver’s license in the state of
Nebraska
- Must have
a valid social security card
- Able to
pass the background check which may include drug test
and screening
- Must be in
good health
- Must have
no physical or mental disability
- Must not
be drug dependent
- Must not
be convicted in the state of Nebraska or in any parts
of the United States of any misdemeanor involving
child abuse, neglect or any felony
- Must be
able to submit all fees for a state and national
criminal history check
- Must
submit full fingerprints before passing the
application
The hiring
agency is the one responsible for training their armed
security officers. The amount of security guard
training varies depending on the size, type
and location of the job. Armed security officers must
receive formal training in areas like laws covering force
as well as weapons retention.
Other training
may include but is not limited to the
following:
- Legal
aspects
- The role
of private security
- Working
and addressing the public
- Patrol and
observation
- Incident
response
- Surveillance and written
reports
- First aid
overview and CPR
Armed security
guards who carry firearms must be licensed by the
appropriate government authority. Also, proof of firearms
training and safety from a certified instructor must be
provided together with your application. Remember that
being an armed security guard has more risks involved
thus they have more stringent background checks and
requirements compared to those unarmed ones. Armed
security officers are paid more and benefits are higher,
more advancement potential and are usually given more
training and responsibility than the unarmed
guards.
The need for
armed security guards is in demand these days. They can
work in both public and private premises as well as
working for people who need security. They are trained
well in preparation for proper response to any danger or
threat of terrorism that can
occur.
