Guard Training Requirements in North
Dakota
In the state of North
Dakota, armed security guards are also known as commissioned
security guards. In order to be an armed security officer, they
must be registered with the security board even if they are an
employee of a licensed security company. For them to carry any
weapon or firearm they must first meet the basic requirements
and applicants must pass a security provider
examination.
For the basic
requirements, here are the qualifications needed to meet
by the applicant.
- Applicant must
be at least 21 years old.
- Must have a
high school diploma or any
equivalent.
- Must have
his/her background checked.
- Must submit to
finger printing.
- Must undergo
drug screening test
- Must be a
United State citizen or a registered alien and must
provide proof that they are able to work legally in
the US.
- Applicant must
be in good physical
condition.
- Must be able to
speak, read, write and understand
English.
- Must have no
felony convictions or any misdemeanors related to
violence, theft, drugs or
fraud.
- Must have a
North Dakota driver’s
license.
- Must be
employed by a private security
company.
- Must be under
supervision from a licensed patrol
officer.
- Must have good
moral character.
- Must have basic
computer skills and other associated operating
system.
- Must be able to
use or has basic knowledge about wire and radio
communications and report
writing.
- Applicant must
pass the security provider’s
exam.
After all
requirements are met and fees are made, scheduled security
guard training examinations are then
given to the applicant. The applicant will be notified
for the time and location of the exams once all
requirements are completed. Take note that application
process is given 30 days to be
completed.
The state of
North Dakota does not allow armed guards to carry their
concealed weapon on duty even if they have a permit for
it. In order to carry a firearm, you must first meet all
requirements mandated as well as the state weapons
requirement before receiving a certification as an armed
security guard.
Armed security
officers can work in many areas at any setting. Their job
is to make sure that areas are secured and there are no
potential threats that can cause alarm to the public.
They patrol in cars or cart in order to secure premises
thoroughly.
Although some
armed guards may have different responsibilities since
this also depends on the employer as well as the size and
location of the work. They can work in banks, airports,
train stations, museums, libraries, schools and many
others. Each location has a different responsibility for
the armed security officer.
