Armed Security
Guard Training Requirements in The Pacific Islands -
Hawaii, Guam, Saipan, American
Samoa
License application is required for
those individuals who want a security guard position in
the Pacific Islands. Armed guards, most especially are
required to do special and more rigid training compared
to unarmed security guards. There are certain standards
that the applicants will have to meet, to acquire a
license.
Listed below are the basic requirements
to qualify.
- The applicant
should be at least 21 years old or
older.
- The applicant
should be able to present proof of having graduated
from high school or any certificate of
equivalency.
- He or she
should acquire a valid driver’s
license.
- The applicant
must submit to a background check and fingerprinting.
All procedures will be processed through the Hawaii
Criminal Justice Data center, for Hawaii
applicants.
- Before
qualifying for a license, the applicant should have
at least 4 years of experience as a guard under a
private employer or a licensed security
guard.
- The
applicants must submit a filled-out application
form.
- He or she
should be able to display mental and emotional
stability. Any records of psychopathic disorder will
be a risk in being able to perform the job
well.
- The applicant
should have no records of felony convictions or any
acts of crime- fraud in
particular.
- He or she
will have to secure a weapon permit issued by the
county police.
Application
Information
Applicants are required to submit a written
form along with other supporting documents, and a 2’’x2’’
photograph for identification. A valid social security number
is also required. If the applicant cannot provide the needed
requirements, the application for a license will be
denied.
It is a common procedure for the applicants
to go through a background check. This involves investigation
of previous residences and locations where they have stayed for
the past ten years. Along with the application form, a record
of the applicant’s criminal history should also be affixed.
Other documented proofs such as evidences of high school
education and notarized Experience Verification forms should
also be included. Criminal history will show if there were any
records of complaints, unlicensed activity or charges against
the applicant. In this case, he or she should be able to give a
signed statement of all the underlying circumstances, including
a copy of the petitions, and documents from the previous
employer.
If there are any found records of felony
convictions and criminal involvement, a detailed and signed
statement, regarding the circumstances for being associated to
the crime is also required, along with all court related
documents.
When the application has been reviewed and
approved. The applicants will still have to go through a test
administered by the Board of Private Detectives and Guards.
Obtaining a security guard license requires mandatory fees such
as the following:
- $50 for
application fee
- $50 for exam
fee
- $30.25 for
FBI report fee

Training
Course
An applicant will only be truly qualified if
he or she would be able to complete the amount of security guard
training required by the employer. Training usually
covers eight hours of classroom instruction before getting
employed. They will also have to attend 4-hour refresher
course, every year after the
employment.
Some armed guards have the power to perform
limited types of arrests and are given certifications as
special police officers. They are required to undergo more
rigid trainings and further background checks since they will
have to carry firearms.
