Armed Security Guard Training Requirements in Utah


 

As the 6th most urbanized state in the United States, Utah is one of the most populated states. With their famous tourist spots, is not surprising that millions of people are visiting this side of the US. In keeping the public safe, Utah welcomes individuals who are interested in applying as an armed security guard.   

As outlined in the Security Personnel Licensing Act Title 58-63-102 (12) the armed security officer must carry out their responsibilities as stated. Armed guards in the State of Utah will be licensed and must have a firearms permit in order to work in a security sector. Applicants must carefully and completely answer the application form in order for it to be processed.  Any false information or incomplete data entered in the application form will be disqualified and may be denied for an armed guard license.  

In order to meet the qualifications needed to be an armed security officer in the state of Utah, he or she must possess the following: 

  • Applicant must be at least 18 years old to obtain the unarmed security guard license. 
  • Applicant must have a valid Utah driver’s license. 
  • Applicant must provide fingerprints. 
  • Applicant must have a proof of legal ability to work in the United States. 
  • Applicants must pass a drug test. 
  • Applicants must have a firearms license. 
  • Applicant must pass the security guard training at a certified state facility. 

As mentioned, an armed guard applicant must train at a certified state facility and must pass the given course. This training will help educate them in order to enhance their skills which are needed to be employed as an armed guard.

Training course will include: 

  • Non-lethal force options 
  • The Utah firearms laws 
  • Writing clear reports 
  • Working with other professionals, such as police and fire officials 
  • The legal limits of force 
  • The legal detainment of suspects 
  • Emergency training that could include CPR 
  • Legal and ethical situations that could occur on the job 

All of these topics must be discussed and should be completed in order to meet the requirements needed for an armed security officer in the state of Utah. Take note that only certified facilities are approved by the state. All requirements and training courses in also needed in obtaining a license as an armed security officer. The security guard training will prepare the applicant to protect the public as well as private individuals in case of any criminal activity and emergency situations. Not only that, armed guards are expected to have training as part of their duty in order for them to perform well as armed security officers. 

An armed security license must be valid the entire time that they are employed in the security sector. Licenses are valid for two years and must be renewed before the date of its expiration.
