Security Guard
Test
Before any individual is employed as
armed or unarmed security guard, he or she must first
pass the standards and criteria of the hiring company and
the state. In some places, to be fully qualified as a
security officer, applicants will have to take certain
examinations. This is usually done right after the
candidate is able to complete the required training
course upon application. The results of this test will be
evaluated to determine whether or not the person applying
is fit for the position.
There are four common types of question found
in almost all security guard examination. Answers to these
questions are based on the learning the applicant gained while
training. The list below will help in preparation for the
screening tests.
How to manage and behave in certain
scenarios
These are based on situations that may arise
on the job. It is a question to test the individual’s ability
to handle any circumstances such as, lost child scenarios, how
to stop theft, and common incidences which requires security
guard response. The most appropriate action would be to follow
the procedures set forth by the training agency and the
authorities.
How to detain criminal
suspects
During training, security guards receives
instructions about techniques and methods on arrest and
detainment, this includes the legal use of force, for armed
guards. It cannot be avoided that oftentimes, crime and illegal
activities happen within the area the guard is assigned. Part
of their duty is to protect the public, maintain order and
apprehend any person disrupting the peace. If the guard is
unarmed, the best answer to this problem would be to report the
situation and call the police. This should be done especially
when the criminal is carrying harmful and deadly
weapons.
How to respond to
emergencies
The most common emergency that may occur
involves fire and medical accidents. Life-saving techniques are
learned by every applicant in their training course. The
training programs give emphasis on things such as first aid and
CPR, for guards to have the capability in performing medical
response. One question found in the examination was about how
to apply CPR on children below the age of five. This should be
something security guards should be knowledgeable of, to prove
that they are highly qualified for the position and also, that
they can be relied upon.
Armed guards have additional training,
therefore their tests also have additional questions involving
the use of firearms, laws on search and seizure and making an
arrest. Understanding the laws which govern these matters is
very important to be able to perform the job
well.
Applicants must answer all questions
accurately and with all honesty. Failure to pass the test will
be grounds for denial of application. Each candidate must
dedicate themselves to the training and preparation, not only
to get the job but also to carry out the security guard duties
at their best.
