Security Guard
Training Requirements in Arizona
(Unarmed)
The state of
Arizona has its own standards and requirements that each
applicant for a security guard position should be able to
meet. The Arizona Department of Public Safety will
evaluate whether or not the individual is suitable or
qualified for the job, depending upon the submitted forms
and training results. The issued license will only be
valid for two years. After this period, the license
should be subject for renewal. Requirements needed are
listed below.
- The applicant
should meet the age requirement of being at least 18 years
old.
- He or she
should be able to provide proof of being a citizen of the
United States or legal resident
alien.
- The applicants
should fully submit to a background
check.
- Fingerprints
should be submitted to the
Department.
- The applicants
should not be found with records of felony conviction or
any misdemeanors such as crimes involving violence and
moral turpitude.
- Applicants
should possess a high school diploma or any equivalent
documents and
certification.
- Unarmed
security guard training must be completed in an approved
facility within the state of
Arizona.
Application
information
Along with the
personal requirements, the State of Arizona also requires
the applicant to submit a written form which holds
specific information needed to complete the application.
The form provided by the Arizona Department of Public
Safety is applicable to those who want to get a new
license or renew their old ones.
The first part
is not required for first time applicants as it need an
employer to provide the needed information. The second
part includes general information such full name, sex,
birth date, place of birth, telephone or mobile number,
home address, e-mail address and social security
number.
The applicant
should also indicate whether he or she is a prohibited
possessor of a license under the state or the federal
law. If there is any Military experience, the applicant
must attach a copy of DD214 together with other required
documents, and a non-refundable license fee of
$74.
Security Guard Training
Course
Being an
unarmed security guard is a tough position. The applicant
should be fully aware of the situations that may arise
and they will have to deal with each day. Completion of
training is very important for the applicants to be
prepared and effective in doing their jobs. This is also
required before any of the applicants can obtain a
license.
Basic
training includes the

- Ethical and
legal issues concerning the
job
- Limited use of
force as allowed by the State of
Arizona
- Crowd
control
- How to deal
with medical emergencies
- How to deal
with fire emergencies
Applicants
with no past experiences should be able to complete an
eight-hour pre-employment security guard
training course to be qualified. Unarmed
guards are very suitable in different areas of the
security sector like schools, malls, libraries and other
public facilities.
