If you are
looking for a job as a security guard in the state of
Colorado, here are some of the things you need to know
before you take the
action.
The state of
Colorado requires people who want to work as a security
guard a valid security guard license for the duration of
their work. The requirements must be met to obtain the
license along with proper documentation and fee must be
applied for at the City Clerk’s
Office.
License for
the unarmed security guard is done on a city level. This
licensing is embodied by Colorado Article V Chapter 42
which states the requirements needed to obtain the
unarmed guard license.
To obtain the
said license, here are the requirements
needed:

Licensed
candidates need to follow an elementary guard training
program in order to become a security officer. This is an
8 hours security guard training that covers
topics such as conversation skills, crowd control and
schooling on detainment of suspects. Applicants can have
this study course at any security training school that is
of course authorized by the Colorado
State.
Trainings for
an unarmed security guard will help the guard to handle
different scenarios which can happen in case any time
while they are on duty. This will also train them to
handle situations dealing with emergencies as well as
authorities.

trainings include:

Unarmed
security guards are allowed to use three different types
of weapons. Since they can’t carry any firearm, unarmed
security guards are to use mace, knife and a nightstick.
There are specifications that they must follow in order
for them to carry these three. For a nightstick, it
should not be longer than 26 inches and not more than 1 ½
inches in diameter. Also, the guard must have 8 hours of
training course before he is allowed to carry a
nightstick. For a guard to use mace, it should be
licensed by the state of Colorado so as to protect the
security guard or third person. One canister is issued
for each security guard. Lastly, for an unarmed security
guard to carry a knife, it should not be more than 3 ½
inches. Any use of force with a weapon must be reported
and filed with the Department of Excise and Licenses
within 3 days in the state of
Colorado.
