Security Guard
Training Requirements in Delaware
(Unarmed)
In the state
of Delaware, being an unarmed licensed security guard is
as important as being an armed guard. Though the only
difference you have is not carrying any firearm that
doesn’t mean that you can get your licensed right away.
If you are applying to be an unarmed security guard in
the state of Delaware, there are a few things you need to
accomplish before you can obtain your
license.
Delaware
requires any individual who wants to apply for his
license as an unarmed security to complete a security
guard training course that is recommended by the state.
Before you become an official security officer however, a
job candidate must be submitted in their job
application.
To complete
the necessary documents, the state of Delaware expects
applicants to follow the needed requirements for their
license application:
- Applicants must
be at least 21 years old.
- Must be a high
school graduate or holds a General Education
Degree.
- Must have no
conviction of any felony or serious
misdemeanors.
- Must have a
proof of being a citizen of the United
States.
- Must undergo
complete background check.
- Has submitted
fingerprints.
- Has undergone
and passed a drug screening
test.
- Must have
effectively finished a state licensed study course
prior to applying for a security guard
license.
Before an
applicant can get a hold of his license, he must first
pass and complete the security guard training course
required but the Delaware Department of Public Safety.
This course will further educate the unarmed security
guard to be more competent when working in private or
public settings.
This course
includes:
- The legal and
ethical issues in the state of
Delaware
- Legal use of
force
- Working with
professionalism in the
workplace
- Emergency
medical training that includes first aid and
CPR.
Once the
security officer training program is completed, the
applicant must submit his/her application to the Delaware
Department of Public Safety (DDPS). Only then can the
license be given to them. The unarmed security guard
license is valid for two (2) years once issued. An
ongoing refresher course must be completed to renew the
license before the expiration date.
By the word
itself, unarmed security guards are not allowed to carry
any firearm. If ever, they are only allowed to carry a
nightstick or a can of mace however, the chances of
having a job in the state of Delaware are also as good as
any armed licensed security guard. Unarmed security
guards can work in schools and colleges, state and
federal offices, banks and other financial institutions
that don’t necessarily need armed guards, hotels,
hospitals, malls and almost everywhere that needs
security. Not only that, they can also work for private
sectors and people so you can be sure that in the state
of Delaware, unarmed security guards can have work and
enjoy the benefits of being a licensed security
officer.
