Security Guard
Training Requirements in District of Columbia
(Unarmed)
Are you
looking for a security job that requires no license? Then
Washington D.C. offers a no license requirement for
unarmed security guards. While some states require their
unarmed security officers to have a license, District of
Columbia however does not require one. They only require
their armed security guards to have a license. If you are
an interested applicant, then there is no need to have a
license nor take the security guard training
course.
Although D.C.
does not require the applicant to have a license for
being an unarmed security, there are a few things that
you must complete as part of the requirement needed for
the job.
Any person who
wishes to work as an unarmed security officer must
be:
- Applicant must
be at least 18 years of
age.
- Applicant must
be a high school
graduate.
- Applicant must
be a resident and a legal citizen of the United
States or a resident
alien.
- Applicant must
be mentally
competent.
- Applicant has
submitted finger
prints.
- Applicant must
have his or her background checked FBI
style.

be free from any compromising dependencies such as
alcohol or drug
abuse.

years of the date of

not have any crime involving firearms, violence and
other serious
misdemeanors.
- Applicant must
undergo necessary training requirements as
required.
- Applicant must
be of good moral
character.
- Applicant must
be in good physical
condition.
- Applicant must
be able to communicate clearly and
effectively.
A training
course is required for any applicant who desires to
register as an unarmed security guard. The course varies
and covers a range of topics such as emergency
procedures, general duties of a security officer and the
use of non-lethal weapons. All of these are covered while
on the training process. After meeting all the necessary
requirements, payments must be made and completed before
the applicant is officially registered as an unarmed
security guard. Once registered, the registration must be
renewed every two (2) years.
Unarmed
security officer is not issued to carry any firearm but a
can of mace, nightstick or any less lethal weapon might
be issued to them with the condition of going under
training. It shall be the responsibility of the employer
or company to have their unarmed security officers go
through such training for the safety use of any issued
weapon.
An unarmed
security guard can work in various places both public and
private settings. Malls, schools, museums, libraries,
parks and others are only among of the few places where
an unarmed guard can work. Safety is an important thing
to protect and not all people are willing to serve and
protect others. Being an unarmed security officer is as
important as that of an armed. Nothing is more rewarding
than serving other people by putting yourself in front of
the line. So do enjoy the benefits of being an unarmed
security officer.
