Security Guard
Training Requirements in Kansas
(Unarmed)
License is required for all applicants
wishing to be employed as unarmed guards in the state of
Kansas. Certain requirements should also be met along
with completion of state certified trainings. This is in
accordance to the legislative Act K.S.A. 75-b and the
Kansas Administrative Regulations statutes, which are
laws governing unarmed security guards. The Kansas
Attorney General’s Office is the authority that regulates
all issued licenses. As in all other states, Kansas also
has a set of standards and criteria that should be met in
order to qualify. Depending upon the employer, additional
requirements might be
needed.
The list below provides the basic
qualification information for unarmed security
guards.
- The applicant
must be at least 18 years of
age.
- The applicant
must possess a high school diploma or any equivalent
documents.
- The applicant
must present a valid working permit proving that he
or she has the legal right to work in the
U.S.
- Fingerprints
are required to be
submitted.
- A background
check will be done by the Federal Bureau of
Investigation.
- The applicant
must be cleared from all records involving felony
convictions, illegal acts, crimes and other
misdemeanors.
- The applicant
should have no records of addiction to drugs and
alcohol.
- He or she
must have a good moral character and should be in
good physical
condition.
- He or she
must be able to pass the security guard
training course certified by the state of
Kansas.
Application
Information
All candidates are required to submit an
application form which contains needed information about the
applicants. This form is used to evaluate the applicant’s
qualification, whether he or she will be fit for the job, and
if the criteria and standards set by the employer are
met.
Included in this category are basic
information such as full name, current address, age, contact
numbers, physical characteristics, marital status and
information about the hiring employer. Applicants should also
indicate whether he or she had previously received a security
officer’s permit and if it was revoked or suspended. A list of
medical history involving mental and emotional disorder should
also be provided.
All employments for the past ten years should
be listed complete with information about the previous
employers. The applicant should also list all previous
residences for the past ten years. If the candidate has ever
served in the Military, he or she should state which branch,
the date of service and the type of
discharge.
If the applicant has been convicted of felony
and misdemeanors, or if there had been records of violations of
the uniform code of Military justice, it should be shown in the
list provided.
Security Guard Training
Course
A state-certified training is required for
each applicant to complete. Training should be done in a
facility within the state of Kansas which has been approved or
accredited. The course will educate the applicants of the
basics they will need in performing their tasks such as the
following:
- Laws of the
state
- Proper
detainment of criminal
suspects
- Response to
fire and medical
emergencies
License is valid only for two years and
should be renewed 30 days prior to the application
date.
