Security Guard Training Requirements in Kentucky (Unarmed)

License for unarmed security guard applicants is not mandatory in the state of Kentucky. Application for security guard employment depends upon the city and county. However, hiring agencies and companies might require the applicants to meet a set of standards and criteria. To be certain about the details, applicants must contact the local City clerk’s office. The criteria may vary from state to state but there are common standards which the candidates will find required in most states including Kentucky.

Below is a list of common qualification factors for unarmed security guards.

  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • The applicant should have a high school diploma or any equivalent proof.
  • The applicant should be able to present a valid driver’s license issued in the state of Kentucky.
  • He or she must be excellent in public relations and communication.
  • He or she must not have any emotional or mental disability.
  • He or she must have good physical conditioning.
  • The applicant must be willing and capable to stand for long periods of time.
  • There should be no records of felony, crime, misdemeanors and illegal activities involving the applicant.

Application Information

The hiring company will provide the necessary application information. The state of Kentucky does not govern license acquisition for security guards, but all employed individuals must conform to the laws under the state. The employer might require each applicant to submit a filled-out application form complete with the specifics such as basic information, previous residences, previous employments and criminal history.

Unarmed security guards are given the huge responsibilities within areas of the security sectors. This covers legal matters, maintaining order and protection of the general public. Most companies will require that the applicant should undergo a background check and pass drug tests.

Criminal history especially illegal use of weapons may impede application. Candidates should also be certain of the company or agency’s status. They should be hired by licensed and acknowledged employers. The local City Clerk’s Office will be able to provide information about these matters.

Security Guard Training Course

All applicants must complete the hours of security guard training required by the employer. This is very important to prepare them in their field of work. It will equip them with sufficient knowledge about how to deal with common problems and the best solution and steps to use when faced with difficult situations. It will also assure the hiring company that their agents are highly qualified for the job.

Training includes:

  • Legal and ethical matters of the state
  • Immediate response to emergencies
  • Public dealings
  • Professionalism on the job
  • Crowd control
  • Reporting to the authorities

Unarmed security guards are highly employed in many areas of the security sectors such as schools, colleges, malls, parks and public buildings.
