Security Guard
Training Requirements in Massachusetts
(Unarmed)
Being an
unarmed security guard has lesser responsibilities than
the armed guards but just because they have lesser
responsibilities, that doesn’t mean it’s some sort of
mediocre. In fact it is as important as being an armed
security officer; the only difference is that you don’t
carry any weapon.
The state of Massachusetts
does not require any
license for an unarmed security guard. However, they do require their
applicants certain qualifications and requirements in
order for them to be able to work as an unarmed guard.
Though there are many states that require their unarmed
security guards to be licensed, there are also those who
don’t. Massachusetts is one of those states who really
don’t require their unarmed guards any security guard
training
license.
For an unarmed
security officer, Massachusetts requires an applicant to
be at least 18 years old. He or she must be a high school
graduate and possesses a high school diploma. If in any
case they have no diploma to present, they can also
submit a GED. Any applicant who has not completed their
high school education may be disqualified for the
position.
Other
important qualifications
include:
- Must be in
good physical condition
- Must have
good communication skills
- Must be a
resident of the United States or have proof of
his/residency
- Must have a
valid identification card
- Must be able
to withstand long standing
periods
- Must be able
to understand and follow
instructions
- Must have no
underlying psychological disorder that could impede
his performance
A thorough
background check is done for any candidate who wants to
apply. Applicants must have no felony conviction of any
kind. However, minor civil penalties such as speeding
tickets will not disqualify someone. Individuals
interested for this position must also undergo drug test
and must pass the screening. Anyone who is drug dependent
will not be classified as potential candidates. Take note
that only prescribed medications such as anti-depressants
and medication for attention deficit hyper-activity
disorder (ADHD) does not disqualify you as long as you
have provided the right documents and with a doctor’s
prescription.
As mentioned
the state of Massachusetts does not require their
applicants to be licensed in order for them to work as an
unarmed security guard. Though there is no need for an
unarmed guard to be licensed, the agency in which they
are under must be licensed and approved by the state of
Massachusetts. There are cases where establishments,
businesses, even high profiled people that might want
them to have a license before they can work. So be sure
that you have the qualifications needed for licensing in
case the company or people you will be working for
require you to have a license.
