Security Guard Training Requirements in Missouri (Unarmed)

Like all states, Missouri has their own set of requirements needed in order to become an unarmed security guard. This state does not require their guards to be licensed but in order to become a part of the security service; you must meet the basic qualifications before you are considered to be a potential candidate.

These are the needed qualifications:

• Applicants must be at least 18 years old
• Applicants must be a legal resident of the United States
• Applicants who are resident aliens must present a proof of their residency
• Applicants must have a valid driver’s license in the state of Missouri
• Applicants must be in good health and no physical disabilities
• Applicants must have good communication skills
• Applicants must be able to follow instructions
• Applicants must be subjected to a background check
• Applicants must pass drug test and screening

These security guard training courses might be added accordingly depending on the agency that hired you. Some are required to complete an 8 hour class course while others can work immediately. Certifications and the number of completed training hours might be a good help for you when applying for another job in the future.

Being an unarmed security officer means that you do not carry any firearm or weapon. There are agencies that allow their unarmed officers to carry a nightstick or a can of mace only if they have gone through training on how to use these weapons. So do ask your hiring agency if they allow their applicants to use these things.

Unarmed security guards can work as stationed unarmed officers where in they are posted in one area while other unarmed officers make round throughout a building or facility that they work to. Employment for unarmed officers does not end in one field. Others work directly for the business they protect or private people. Some work under an agency that supplies security guards to other establishments. As a security guard, it is your duty to deter theft, arson, vandalism as well as other less serious offenses like trespassing and loitering. You can work in schools, government facilities, malls, hospitals, airports and many others. For as long as there is threat to the safety and security of the public, unarmed security officers will be needed.
