Security Guard Training Requirements in Tennessee (Unarmed)


 

Agriculture, manufacturing and tourism are just a few of Tennessee’s major industries. With millions of tourist visiting their famous landmarks and businesses establishments put up every year, the safety and security of its residents is one of the important things that the state of Tennessee prioritizes. Individuals applying as unarmed security guards are welcome in this beautiful state.  

To apply as an unarmed security officer, one must have a license. In order to obtain a license, applicants must complete the requirements needed and comply to all the guidelines.

Unarmed security guards in the state of Tennessee must have the following:

  • Applicants must be 18 years old at least
  • Applicants must be a resident of the United States and must be able to provide proof of his residency.
  • Applicants must have a valid driver’s license in the state of Tennesse.
  • Applicants must be in good physical condition and can stand in long periods.
  • Applicants must be subjected to an FBI style background check.
  • Applicants must be free from any psychological disorders that might impede him in performing his duties.
  • Applicants must have good communication skills and can follow instructions well.
  • Applicants must be of good moral character.
  • Applicants must not have multiple drinking convictions.
  • Applicants must not have a history of narcotics addiction or dependency.
  • Applicants must not have probation within 5 years for any serious crimes that include violence, firearms or shoplifting.
  • Applicants must complete the application form with correct information regarding them.
  • Applicants must submit three fingerprint cards and must be processed by the TBI.
  • Applicants must attend training at a certified states facility.

A security guard training course is required by the state of Tennessee for those who are applying as an unarmed security officer.

Each applicant must complete fours with one hour of each topic:

  • Training in emergency procedures
  • Education in the legal powers and limitations of the unarmed security guard
  • Education in the general duties of an unarmed security guard
  • Orientation

Since unarmed guards are not allowed to carry any weapon or firearms, they are issued to carry a can of chemical spray or mace, nightstick or club and other types of non-lethal devices while on duty.  They must also train with a certified trainer and must have a certification before they are allowed to carry these things.

This certification must be carried by the unarmed security guard and must be presented when demanded by the commissioner, other authorized agent as well as full time law enforcers. All fees must be paid and are non-refundable.

Unarmed security officers are expected to respond to any threats or emergency situations that may arise with full confidence and knowledge. That is why training is required.
