Security Guard
Training Requirements in Utah
(Unarmed)
The
regulations found in the Security Personnel Act 58-63-101
states that all unarmed security guard in the state of
Utah must have a license prior to working in the security
sector. They are also required to fill in the complete
details in the application form upon application. License
will be given to those who have successfully passed the
required security guard training course and
have properly presented their application. Take note that
the Utah Division of Occupational and Proof Licensing
will handle all licenses for unarmed security guards.
Having a license means that an individual can now have
the opportunity to be employed in the security sector. So
therefore, all application must be completely filled
out.
The
requirements to obtain the Utah license
are:
- Must have a valid Driver’s
License
- Must be at
least 18 years of age
- Must have a
valid Social Security number
- Must be
mentally competent and physically
fit
- Must have good
moral character
- Must be free
from any form of addiction. No drug or alcohol use or
dependence
- Must
successfully pass a drug test
- Must pass
finger print cards of at least two (2) copies or
electronic fingerprinting is
accepted
- Must have a
certificate of completion of 24-hours of classroom
training with a score of at least
80%
- Must submit to criminal background
check
- Must have no
serious felony convictions
- Must have no
disabilities both physically and mentally that would
prevent performance of duty
An 8 hour
course is required for an applicant who wants to apply
for as an unarmed guard. They must complete the number of
hours and must train at a certified facility. With this
training, unarmed guard candidates are equipped with the
skills needed without the use of any firearm or lethal
weapons.
The 8 hour course will include topics
such as:
- Writing reports
properly
- Proper management of
emergencies
- The legal and ethical issues that can
arise while the unarmed security guard is on
duty.
- The legal use of
force
- The detainment of suspects and the legal
limits
Upon completion of
all requirements and training, an unarmed security
officer will be granted a license that is valid for two
years. The bearer of the license must renew this every
two years in order for it to continue its validity. An
unarmed guard can work to any location open to anyone
with a valid license. With the need of security and
