Security Guard Training Requirements in Vermont (Unarmed)


 

If you like living in a small state with beautiful mountains and sceneries that you can see every day then Vermont is the best place for you. Of course, residing in such place also means you have to find a job. Vermont offers individuals who are interested in working as an unarmed security guard that chance to work and live in this lovely state.   

In order to work as an unarmed security officer in the state of Vermont, applicants must meet all requirements. The licensing in Vermont is found under the Vermont Statutes Title 26 Section 3174.

All applicants must adhere to the security licensing as listed: 

  • All applicants must be at least 18 years of age. 
  • The applicant will complete the application for it to be considered for licensing. Incomplete or false information given within the application will be declined of license. 
  • Applicants must be given a background check 
  • Applicants must submit fingerprints
  • Must submit a passport size photo. 
  • An applicant must be mentally competent and physically fit. 
  • All applicants must provide character references. 
  • Must have no drug or alcohol use or dependence. 
  • Applicants must successfully pass a drug test. 
  • An applicant must not have a felony criminal record or any serious offense. 
  • A valid photo Vermont driver’s license or photo state identification must be provided upon application. 

There is a requirement to pass a written examination that is outlined in Vermont Statutes Title 26, 3175. 

Unarmed security guards are not required to carry any firearm to perform their duty so there is no need to get a firearms permit. However, they must undergo security guard training from a state facility which will prepare them to function well in the line of duty. This is in preparation for an unarmed security officer to work with other professionals in the security sector as well as authorities. They are trained in order to respond competently in case threats or emergencies arise.

Training will include: 

  • Learning to write reports properly to document events 
  • Dealing professionally with authorities including police and fire officials 
  • Protecting the public 
  • The legal and ethical issues that can arise on the job. 
  • Emergency training that could include CPR 
  • Legal detainment of suspects 
  • The legal use of force 

Unarmed guards are needed in almost everywhere. Their presence is enough to deter any suspicious activities that may be found within the premises that they work to. They are trained to protect buildings, properties as well as keeping the public safe. License for an unarmed security officer is valid for two years and must be renewed before the expiration date. A refresher course may be given so do check for new updates of renewing your license.
